What’s in a Name: The Meaning Behind Our Rio Bravo Cabin

Integrity. Decency. Duty. These were the qualities actor John Wayne embodied in his legendary turn as Sheriff John T. Chance in the 1959 Howard Hawks film Rio Bravo. At Leland’s Cabins, we try to embody these same qualities in everything we do.

Considered one of John Wayne’s best performances, his character in Rio Bravo captivated audiences around the world and catapulted the film into the pantheon of Hollywood classics. The list of stars is remarkable—Dean Martin, Angie Dickinson, Ricky Nelson, who was then a rival of Elvis Presley. And what Western is complete without an appearance from Walter Brennan?

In 2014, the Library of Congress named Rio Bravo to its prestigious National Film Registry, which ensures the survival, conservation, and increased public availability of America’s film heritage and movies it considers “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”

Inspired by John Wayne’s big-screen heroism, as well as the mighty Rio Grande River, which in Mexico is called the Rio Bravo, we named our most reliable diminutive cabin the Rio Bravo, too. One of the finest pre-built small cabins you’ll find anywhere, our Rio Bravo stands up to to the competition in price, craftsmanship, and style.

Clocking in at 216 square feet, our Rio Bravo cabin is built to provide convenience and efficiency. Heating and cooling costs are mere pennies compared with traditional homes, and at $18,161, our price tag comes in at far less than you’ll pay for a car or truck.

Flexible Uses

Whether you’re looking to purchase a tiny house or commandeer some extra space for your fitness routine or home business, the Rio Bravo offers flexibility. Start with our floorplans. When you visit one of our cabin dealerships, sit down with one of our design team experts. We’ll help you decide on the small details and work with you to create the cabin of your dreams. Don’t like where a window is? We’ll move it. Need more closet space? We can help with that too. Need room for a desk and filing system? We can accommodate that.

Once you’ve decided on the cabin style that fits your needs, we’ll help you choose your cabin’s exterior, whether it’s lap siding or six-inch cedar split logs. What the Rio Bravo lacks in size, it makes up for in style. Select a gorgeous wood interior, like our white pine with walnut wainscoting. And textured wood or hand-scraped plank wood floors give a high-end look to your private getaway.

We believe our homes outperform the modular cabins Texas competitors are building. And that’s because we don’t skimp on the details, even in our leanest models. While the kitchen in the Rio Bravo isn’t large, there’s room for a refrigerator, sink, and stove, as well as a place to sit down and enjoy your meal. Supply your own, or we’ll deck it out with Frigidaire appliances in black, white, or stainless steel finishes. And don’t miss our cabinets, handcrafted in hickory or pine woods.

Charm Is in the Details

Start each day with a shower in the Rio Bravo’s comfortable bathroom, which features space enough for a toilet, sink, and shelving area too.

Keep things cool with a ceiling fan hanging from the rafter beneath a roof made of ponderosa pine, white pine, or metal. And an LG air conditioning and heating system will regulate your temperatures. A few well-placed windows allow air to circulate and let the natural light in, adding to the warm ambiance.
